Some of the strongest paintings often have a previous life that pulsates through the finished picture.

This was always meant to be a strong almost masculine black line gestural composition. Pushed and pulled and realigned. To clam it down the jacaranda blue started to be layered in and out of the black. It’s that strength and slight confusion around the blurred edges of the black forms that helps keep the eye moving as we try and focus then move again within another layer.

I believe it’s a calming picture that wrestles between clarity and uncertainty.
